Walking Your Way to Health and Happiness

Health and Nutrition – How to Strike a Balance

By Joe Macmillan and Irma Mac Millan

So you set out to take off a few pounds and to get into good condition again. It was so easy to put on those extra pounds. A little cheating here and there and on goes the weight. My big problem is sweets. Chocolate is my favorite. I kid myself by saying chocolate is made from beans and we all know that beans are good for you so…

Those extra pounds go on gradually over a long period of time. An extra fifty calories a day can add up to a gain of six pounds on our bodies a year. So then we go on a diet and are upset that our weight refuses to come down this week. Not going to happen that fast.

For the extra weight to come off you not only need to eat fewer calories but you need to work the body. You might want to consider joining a gym or begin to walk. My wife and I are in great condition. We eat a good healthy diet and we walk. Both the gym and walking take time. An hour a day is what we have done for years. We tried the gym. It was very boring. We made walking our together time. Our quiet time without TV or any distraction. Just the two of us hand in hand. Did I mention we have been doing this for about forty of the fifty two years we have been married. It has not only kept us healthy but happily married. A great combination.

The benefits of walking an hour a day are outstanding. Walking makes everything inside your body work properly. Everything inside gets a good shake up. The first thing you will notice is that your bathroom habits will become very easy and regular. A good low fat diet does the rest. When I say diet I do not mean the diets outlined in diet books or diet websites. I mean a good balanced healthy food system where you yourself gradually change the high fat content of your old system to a lower one. Drop the sugar from the coffee and replace it with substitute sugar. Change the white bread for whole wheat. Change the whole milk for skim or one percent.

See. You do not need to change everything all at once. Take your time in making changes and those little ounces of fat tucked away in your body will slowly but surely come off. Good luck and enjoy your walk
