How can I get into shape without the gym? I hate exercise.

A reader asks…

I go for a 45 min walk at lunch time and 15 mins to the train station in the morning and on the way home. Aside for this I don’t do anything. I am not seeking motivation to go to the gym. I have a free gym in the building that I never use as I have the gym. I want to burn more calories and am willing to explore activities or quirky ways to get more steps or movement into my dayI want some ideas.

    Have you tried resistance bands? Use the menu on the right side of this page for free resistance bands workouts.

    Try a dance class, a pump class, boxing, body combat, any martial art, running or use a fitball and handweights at home.

    Free gym ! You’ve got to take advantage of that ! Your walks are good, but by doing weights, you can build and maintain your muscle mass and bone density. Definately a good thing, especially when you get older…

    um, try a dance video if your into dancing. Also try to stand when ever possible as standing will burn more calories then sitting. There are also plenty of simple exercises your can do at home with out a gym, for example there about a hundred different ab exercise you can perform without any equipment, pushups, mountain climbers ….. Also try to eat most of your calories during the day, and eat less at night.

    I think dancing to music is the most awesome way to lose weight. You can get a dvd where they teach you how to dance. Maybe a belly dancing dvd or something like that might be fun. You?l have even more fun if you have a friend who wants to learn to dance too and you both can learn together.

    well laughing is a good excercise…
    you dont need the gym to excercise anyways: you can excercise in your home, or go for a run.
